Jennifer Laffin, PhD, FACMG
Laboratory Medical Director
Dr. Laffin joined Exact Sciences in May 2014 as Clinical Laboratory Medical Director. Dr. Laffin received her Ph.D. in genetics from the University of Iowa. She completed post-graduate clinical fellowships in Molecular Genetics at the University of Iowa and Cytogenetics at the University of Wisconsin. Dr. Laffin is board certified in Clinical Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics. Dr. Laffin is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics- Genetics and Metabolism at the University of Wisconsin Department of Pediatrics and serves as the Director of the Clinical Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics Laboratory within the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene.
Vanessa Horner, PhD, FACMG
Clinical Laboratory Assistant Medical Director
Vanessa Horner joined Exact Sciences in January 2016 as the Clinical Laboratory Assistant Medical Director. Dr. Horner is certified in Clinical Cytogenetics and Clinical Molecular Genetics by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics. In addition, she is a Fellow of the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics and holds a New York State Certificate of Qualification in Cytogenetics, Molecular Genetic Testing, and Oncology.
Dr. Horner received her PhD in Genetics and Development from Cornell University, and did her clinical genetics fellowships at Emory University. She is the Assistant Director of the Clinical Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics Laboratory at the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH) and holds an academic appointment in the Department of Pathology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Barry M. Berger, MD, FCAP
Chief Medical Officer
Barry M. Berger, MD, joined Exact Sciences in 1999. He received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Berger held an academic appointment at Harvard Medical School and has been visiting affiliated staff in Pathology at Brigham and Women's Hospital since 1982.
His post-graduate training includes a post-doctoral fellowship in immunology (University of Pennsylvania), medical internship at Boston University Hospital and Residency/Chief Resident in Pathology at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. Dr. Berger is boarded in Anatomic, Clinical and Cytologic pathology.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Berger spent 11 years as the Director of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine of Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare.
He is the past chairman of the Advisory Committee on Clinical Laboratories for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Massachusetts Society of Pathologists and the Health Policy Task Group of the National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable. He is a mentor/catalyst at the MIT Deshpande Center for Technology and Inovation.
Ana Hooker, MBA, MT (ASCP)
Senior Vice President Operations
Ana Hooker has over 20 years of laboratory experience. Prior to her position at Exact Sciences, she was at ARUP Laboratories for 15 years, the latter two as the division manager for anatomic pathology, oncology and genetics.
Prior to this, she was the division manager for genetics for three years and during her tenure she held positions of increased responsibility including group manager for oncology and genetics and the Technical Supervisor of the University of Utah Hospital Clinical Laboratories at ARUP.
She received her BS from Kansas State University, her MT from Hays Pathology Laboratories and her MBA from Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah. She has served in several positions in the Utah Chapter of CLMA since 2004.
Belinda Baron, DHSc MT (ASCP)
Senior Director, Clinical Laboratory Operations
Belinda Baron has over 25 years of laboratory experience. Prior to joining Exact Sciences, she was at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Salt Lake City Utah and ARUP Laboratories for 18 years.
She held several positions of increased responsibility including teaching specialist, Technical Supervisor of the University of Utah Huntsman Cancer Hospital at ARUP, and the night operation manager for ARUP Laboratories during her tenure.
She received her AS Augusta Technical College in Augusta Georgia, her BS in Medical Technology from Augusta University (Medical College of Georgia), and her MHA and DHSc from Andrew Taylor Still University in Mesa, AZ. She has been a member of CLMA and ASCLS organizations for several years.
